Formerly known as "The Golden Enclosure", it was a sacred place where worship was given to the highest Incan god: the Inti (Sun), so you could only enter fasting and barefoot as indicated by the elder priest Willaq Umu. Duration: 8:20 a.m. to 6:45 p.m.
Itinerary: After savoring the typical breakfast at the hotel we will pick you up at approximately 8:30 a.m. to start a guided tour of the famous "Sacred Valley of the Incas", which contains history and scenic beauty. The first place to visit will be the "Archaeological Park of Chinchero", a picturesque district for its customs and handicrafts where the remains of the royal hacienda of Tupac Inca Yupanqui are found. We will visit the well preserved Inca wall in the main square, and we will visit the beautiful colonial temple with interesting frescoes in the portico built on the bases of an Inca building.
Then we will go to the "Archaeological Center of Moray" which was a center of agricultural experimentation in the Inca times, in which we will see the well-known concentric platforms where great potential of agricultural products and medicinal plants was developed. Many of them come from the jungle region and the Peruvian coast. Immediately we arrive at the small district of Maras and the "Village of the Salineras", where we will observe the salt mines whose traditional exploitation is so old that it continues to be carried out in the same way since the Tahuantinsuyo period. The inhabitants direct the saline water that emanates from the subsoil to pools where, due to the sun, water evaporates, leaving on the surface the salt that is then treated to be sold in the local market. The view of the whole of about three thousand pools, is spectacular. The villagers will show us their ancestral techniques and if we are lucky we will be able to intervene in the collection, as well as in the festivals and Andean rituals.
Continuing with the tour of the Sacred Valley of the Incas, and after the respective lunch, we will continue to the "Archaeological Park of Ollantaytambo", one of the most important places in the whole valley. There we will have the opportunity to walk through the narrow streets of the village and thus have a clear idea of how this administrative, military, agricultural, religious and cultural center was during the Inca Empire. Our return to the city of Cusco will be between 18:00 p.m. and 18:45 p.m
